1. Who operates WeatherToRun
WeatherToRun provides the website and apps described in this policy. Contact: [email protected]. This policy covers the website and native Apple apps, including widgets and the paired Watch. No account is required. The service is intended for general runners, rather than children under 13. Contact us if you believe we have collected a child’s personal information.
2. Weather, location and local data
The website may use your IP address for an initial city estimate. Browser geolocation can supply precise coordinates with your permission. The native app requests a roughly 3 km location accuracy, but actual precision depends on the device and permission; manual searches may return precise coordinates. Coordinates and search queries are sent to weather and geocoding providers to fulfil your request. Preferences, recent activity, saved runs and notes are stored locally using cookies, localStorage, UserDefaults or SwiftData as applicable. Widgets use an on-device App Group; the paired Watch receives location, forecast, preferences and entitlement information through Apple WatchConnectivity. Device backups may preserve local data. Scores and gear advice are computed on your device or browser, and some website forecasts and scores are processed on our servers.
3. Analytics, replay and diagnostics
Website analytics and replay start only after your choice. Analytics includes a coarse acquisition source, without full referrer URLs or search terms. Native app version 2.1.19 includes opt-in and opt-out controls in Settings → Privacy choices. In that version, optional analytics and diagnostics are off until you opt in, and you can withdraw at any time. Earlier versions may collect analytics and diagnostics by default until updated. Publishing this policy does not update installed apps; contact us for privacy requests. When analytics are enabled, PostHog receives a persistent browser or installation identifier, session identifiers, interactions, preferences, device and app metadata, and native subscription status. These records are pseudonymous, not anonymous. Website analytics may also use Google Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. Website replay shows public interface text, forecasts, images and interactions. Inputs and marked private areas, including selected location details and privacy-request content, are masked or excluded. Network bodies are excluded. Native replay is disabled. Necessary website error reports go to Sentry with identifying request details removed; optional performance monitoring follows the analytics setting. We do not use Apple’s IDFA or sell personal information.
4. Service providers and support
Apple WeatherKit provides forecasts; Apple MapKit provides native search and geocoding; OpenWeather provides website search and geocoding; Open-Meteo provides air quality. Vercel hosts the website. PostHog processes analytics and replay through our proxy on its US service. Google Analytics, Sentry and Vercel Speed Insights process the data described above. If you contact us, your email (if supplied), subject, category and message are processed by Resend and our email service to handle your request; contact emails are not sent to product analytics. Apple handles purchases and billing through StoreKit and the App Store. We receive entitlements and transaction information, not payment-card details. Apple’s own app analytics are governed by its privacy settings and terms. Cloudflare operates the analytics proxy.
5. Purposes and legal bases
We use data to provide requested forecasts, store your choices, respond to support and operate the service securely. Where European or UK data protection law applies, requested service processing is based on performance of a contract; necessary security and troubleshooting rely on our legitimate interest in operating a reliable service. Optional website analytics and replay start only after your choice. You can change either choice at any time. Device location permission is separate from analytics settings.
6. Retention and privacy requests
Local preferences and records remain until you remove them, clear browser storage or remove the app; backups and paired-device copies can persist separately. Preference cookies generally expire after one year. Support correspondence is retained while needed to resolve the request and fulfil applicable legal obligations. Provider retention varies by data type and configured account settings; contact us for current periods. Withdrawal stops future optional collection, but does not automatically erase historical records. You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability where applicable, or complain to your local data protection authority. Use Privacy choices or email [email protected]; include your analytics identifier if available so we can locate pseudonymous records. Requests are assessed and answered under applicable law.
7. International processing and policy updates
Some providers process data in the United States; other infrastructure may process data in other countries. Data protection laws can differ. Contact us for information about the providers and transfer safeguards applicable to your request. We will update this policy when practices change and seek fresh consent where required; continuing to use the service is not consent to new optional processing.
